GUERNSEY COUNTY VETERANS COUNCIL

HONORING THOSE WHO SERVED

Community Event Support

The Guernsey County Veterans Council provides personnel for Patriotic programs throughout the year. While the individual Veterans organizations plan and conduct the different programs for the National Holiday celebrations; they do not have the manpower to provide the different “Military” aspects of the programs. The Council provides Color Guards, Firing parties, Bugler; and at times, speakers. On occasion we are called to support the local Veterans organizations in Post activities like “Pearl Harbor Day”, “POW/MIA Day”, “Loyalty Day” and Flag retirement ceremony on Flag Day and other VFW and American Legion programs. In addition to the “Patriotic” holidays, the Council has provided a Color Guard for such things as the “Christmas” parade in Cambridge and community celebrations in Lore City, Antrim, and Old Washington. For the past six years the Council has processed the Colors and raised the Flag for the Cambridge High School football games. As Veterans we believe that our future generations need to understand the sacrifices that have been made by so many to provide the freedoms we enjoy. To that end, the Council provides Veterans Day programs in the Cambridge City School District, East Guernsey School District, and Rolling Hills School District. In addition the Council has conducted Flag education programs for the local Boy Scout and Cub Scout units. While these additional activities are important, we must decline requests occasionally because our primary obligation is the providing of Military Funeral Honors of our Veterans.
